Man, this week has had some ups and downs.

Last Friday, at the Adrenaline Freaks trackday prior to the opening round of the WMRRA season, I spun a rod bearing and demolished the bottom end of my R6's motor. Tearing it down in the new 28' Performance Source trailer, I found out that I needed *everything*: new bearings, new pistons, new connecting rods and even a new crankshaft.

My arm is healing well. I saw my surgeon, Dr. Richard Angelo of the Evergreen Orthopedic Center, on Friday to get a check-up and some new x-rays. The breaks in my radius are nearly fully healed on their own, and my clavicle is holding together perfectly and knitting quickly. I was given a referral to physical therapy, but told at the same time that I likely will not even need it, as I have not lost any flexibility or range of motion at all. I've got another checkup scheduled for April 1st where I will receive the final yes or no, but overall the odds look good for an appearance at the first WMRRA round at Pacific Raceways on April 4th!

The secound round of the WERA West series was hosted at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a course I am very familiar with and comfortable on. I was entered in seven races, including two solo endurance races and a make-up race being carried over from our first round at Auto Club Speedway. I was very excited to race, as holding the first round's make-up race at Vegas would put me at an advantage points-wise because I had much more experience at LVMS than at ACS and would do much better.

However, with my friend Duane’s prodding and some not-so-subtle jabs and challenges to my Fuzimoto-built GSXR-750’s masculine prowess, I went to Portland like an addict to his dealer.

The track temperature at this point in the day was a no-joke 150*F. In the shade, the air temperature was 112. We quite literally did not have to use warmers - you could simply place your tires on the asphalt, and they would be up to temp. About halfway into a race, they'd get greasy - even the BT-003 Type 2 Hards I was running specifically for this weekend.. I'll have to remember to get the ultra-hard Type 1's for next year. After 750 Superstock I had only a one-race break before 600 Superbike, so I didn't even really peel off my suit; I just had my friends pour water into my boots and down my back. By the halfway flags of the race inbetween, I was dry.

For June, there was an unavoidable conflict in the WMRRA and OMRRA schedules - both organizations landed on the same dates for their race weekend, and neither was able to change its commitment. This left the many riders who compete in both series with a difficult question: Which races should I run, and which should I let slip? I chose to go down south to OMRRA, for while my GSXR-750 is competitive in its classes in WMRRA, it's dominant in its classes in OMRRA (thanks Fuzzy!) and I've got in my sights a class championship.
