Chris began riding motorcycles in the summer of 2005, at age 20. Originally, it was just a way to save on fuel costs. He picked up a 1990 Suzuki DR350 from his older brother and used it to ride to and from his job as a beach lifeguard. That winter, he traded up to a 1991 Suzuki GS500E, which he rode every moment he could until March of 2006, when he was hit by a car in downtown Seattle.

It was on First & Atlantic – I was heading back from Home Depot with some things I needed to finish my rugby team’s tackle bags. I was coming up to an intersection and saw a car in the other lane, but he didn’t have a blinker on and I had a green light, so I didn’t really thing much of it. However, the next thing I knew I was staring at that same car not more than a few feet in front of me, and then BAM, I was flying through the air staring “up” at the car’s hood.

Chris was thrown nearly forty feet from the scene of the accident and ended up spending three days in the Harborview ICU, and eight in the hospital altogether. Once released, he faced three months of crutches and physical therapy. Finally in June, nearly immediately after he was given the OK to walk, he went and bought a 1998 Honda Superhawk – evading his mother’s wrath only by promising that if he ever crashed again, he would give up streetbikes forever.

That summer, Chris attended his first trackday: The 2006 Seattle 100, hosted by 2-Fast at Pacific Raceways. The Seattle 100 is a charity event to raise money for kidney disease, with participants raising a minimum of $500 in donations as their entry. Two weeks after he signed up for a second, and two weeks after that a third: He was hooked. In September of that year Chris had a second crash on the street and, despite it being only a small slide with no injuries, he kept true to his word and gave up street bikes… by track-prepping his Superhawk for racing.

In 2007, Chris was the first novice of the year to sign up with WMRRA and was assigned #900. He completed his requirements and graduated from the novice program in August, competing in his first expert race in September of that year. In 2008, he was assigned expert #262, and he began competing in OMRRA and WERA as well as WMRRA, eventually finishing the season with multiple podium finishes in WERA West, multiple top-ten finishes in WERA National Challenge and the WERA Grand National Finals, and a close 2nd-place championship finish in OMRRA’s 750 Sr. Superbike class. Chris is looking to 2009 to continue and improve upon his already impressive 2008 results.
